Visa Information

There is a comprehensive page of the German Federal Foreign Office that explains the visa issues. For your convenience we have sampled a few important aspects

- many non-EU nationals need a visa to enter Germany, see homepage

- for the conference participation a short-stay Schengen visa is appropriate, generally

- those visa are issued by the German embassy or consulate-general in your country of residence

- it is highly recommended to contact those bodies well in advance to find out, which documents are needed for you to get the visa

- you might need an invitation letter from the conference organization; in that case write an email to tg@gdch.de (subject: invitation letter ILCC 2012) providing all necessary personal data; these invitation letters cannot be sent electronically, so take into account the extra time it takes for regular postal mail to reach you; the conference organization cannot directly intervene with any German embassy or consulate on your behalf

- very often you need a proof of an appropriate health insurance

- the time for the actual visa issue process is indicated as 2 - 10 days; this seems to be the absolute minimum - better calculate in months rather than weeks
